WaterAid is an internationally known charity and one Mildren supports on an ongoing basis through work with Wessex Water and various events such as running competitions and quizzes.

Mildren’s Dave Stokes is actively involved as an official WaterAid Speaker and volunteer, Dave is regularly invited to help raise awareness of their work. Having lived in Africa for 10 years and visiting Madagascar a few years later, Dave has seen Wessex Water’s valuable work taking place. He is well-equipped to talk about it.

Dave recently spoke to three classes of 7-10 year olds at Elm Academy in Bournemouth.

The schoolchildren engaged in Dave’s WaterAid presentation outlining the distance people have historically travelled for clean water. They learnt that diarrhoea caused by dirty water and poor sanitation is the second biggest child killer in Madagascar – a stark reminder of how things are in some areas of the world. They were encouraged to carry a container of water – not an easy task.

Mildren’s next WaterAid fundraiser is the Hoburne 5 mile race in Christchurch. It’s being held at 10:30am on Sun 25th Sept 2022 and places are now open for booking https://christchurch-runners.org.uk/hoburne5.html. As previously mentioned, we’re open to competition within the local construction world!

Keep up the good work Dave.
