Talbot Campus Infrastructure

Major improvements to the roads, car parking, university bus links, and waste handling facilities

The Talbot Campus Infrastructure Project delivered major improvements to the roads, car parking, university bus links, and waste handling facilities for the University.

Mildren Construction were awarded the contract under the NEC Conditions of Contract to Construct a new adoptable link road with associated landscaping. The works included the removal of an existing car park, construction of new Bus hub facility, construction of new securely fenced waste compound facility and a car park extension for 220 spaces with street lighting and CCTV coverage. The New link road from Boundary Roundabout provides a safer and more effective route for BU buses around the Talbot Campus. The changes included the remodelling of the busy roundabout, construction of new footways and cycle ways.

The Bus hub works included installation of a new canopie, seating and electronic signage, full carriage way and foot way was reconstructed with extensive landscaping. The installation of new ‘Boxrap’ waste building provides the campus with a dry waste facility. The building is positioned within a secure fenced compound. Due to it being a live site any vehicle, pedestrian and cycle movements across the campus had to be carefully managed. We worked in small areas at a time to help reduce the disruption, allowing staff and students to access the University without any issues. Noisy operations had to be carefully controlled due to the educational requirements of the buildings. Stone cutting was completed off site to minimise the noise and vibrations during the exam periods.

We worked closely with the University project and facilities team to ensure our construction operations dovetailed in with the day to day running of the university. By having proactive engagement with the local authorities of Poole and Bournemouth we were able to deliver the adoptable highways works and connections in the highways network quickly and efficiently. The project was completed ahead of the programme and on budget.
