Malthouse Bridge and Footbridge, Basingstoke
Design, fabrication and installation of a new 15m steel footbridge structure over Basingstoke Canal
The scheme comprised the design, fabrication and installation of a new 15m steel footbridge structure adjacent to the existing Malthouse Bridge, over Basingstoke Canal.
The existing towpath steps were demolished and reconstructed and new brick abutments and wingwalls were erected supported by SFA piling. Post and rail fencing was erected along the new approach ramps and the road across the old canal bridge was resurfaced.
The new pedestrian walkway was constructed to a bespoke design to be compatible with the existing features and bridges along the canal. It was constructed in a manner to have minimal impact on the environment and installed using a mobile telescopic crane.
