Renovation of a Grade II listed building to luxury apartments
Since planning permission was granted back in late 2019, work to transform the former Sharky’s play centre on Custom House Quay in Weymouth into a restaurant and apartments has recently completed with a great team effort from DJ Property, RBstudio Architects, Godsell Arnold, Mildren Construction and Elcock Associates.
Works were scheduled for completion in Summer 2020 however sensitive redevelopment projects are not without their challenges, not least during the recent COVID-19 lockdown. The works included the restoration of the main building and included the internal fit out of four new high end apartments with a commercial space on the ground floor for a restaurant or café business.
Deheers Warehouse is one of Weymouth’s iconic harbour side properties. restoring this building to its former glory provides a great sense of pride for team and the local residents and businesses. There was a great sense of shared responsibility felt by everyone involved with this project. It was vitally important that Mildren Construction served to lead by example, not just setting a benchmark for quality but also demonstrating the high level of sensitivity required to ensure that the distinctive character of Weymouth’s Old Harbour and its heritage can be celebrated for generations to come.
Due to this project being delivered during the Covid-19 pandemic the team had to work to new guidelines almost overnight. Working collaboratively, they successfully set up a safe system to avoid any potential delays.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone involved with the Deheers project for their efforts and resilience in such difficult times. From our home offices and further afield, we are working hard to ensure safeguarding best practices onsite adhere to the latest government guidelines.
We take great pride in our work and look for the same values in the partners we choose to work with. The Deheers Warehouse regeneration will be a stand out project; our selection of Mildren Construction reflects this.
