A27 St Margaret’s Roundabout

Road widening around the roundabout

St Margaret’s Roundabout is a very busy junction located on the A27 in Fareham, Hampshire.

The project involved the signalisation of St Margaret’s Roundabout and the widening of three approach roads and the circulatory carriageway of the roundabout. The roundabout exit onto Cartwright Drive is to be widened to two lanes.

An existing footway on the northern side of the A27 was widened into a shared use footway/cycleway. Further works included the installation of a Toucan Crossing across Cartwright Drive and across the A27 on the western side of the roundabout. As well as the creation of a new slip road access being provided from the roundabout into the Shell garage. On such a busy route, programming, traffic management and communication with all stakeholders were key success factors which were measured by the client, Hampshire County Council, and met by Mildren.
