Talbot Campus Car Park

210 space car park project

Close to Bournemouth Town Centre, this 210 space car park project formed part of much larger infrastructure and public realm project delivering major improvements to the roads, car parking and bus links on and around theBournemouth University Talbot Campus. The purpose of the 220 space car park was to replace an existing facility which had to be moved to make way for a new Bus Hub at the main entrance to the campus, as well as to createadditional spaces required to accommodate a growing workforce.

Constructed on a brown-field site adjacent to the northern boundary of the campus, works included extensive earthworks, full depth construction, drainage and utilities providing power to street lighting and data connectivity tothe main university CCTV system.

Working on this busy university campus required close cooperation with our clients project team, to ensure minimal disruption was caused by not only the works themselves, but also by vehicle movements from our workforce and supply chain. Particularly attention had to be paid during the summer exam period, whilst at the same time having to ensure the construction programme was maintained so as not to impede on progress of the wider scheme.

The overall Talbot Campus Infrastructure project delivered major improvements to the roads, car parking, university bus links, and waste handling facilities for the university.

Mildren Construction were awarded the contract under the NEC Conditions of Contract.

We worked in small areas at any one time to help reduce the disruption, allowing staff and students to access  the university without issues. Noisy operations were carefully controlled due to the educational  requirements of the buildings. Stone cutting was completed off-site to minimise the noise and vibrations during the exam periods.

We worked closely with the university’s projects and facilities teams to ensure our construction operations dovetailed in with the day to day running of the university. By having proactive engagement with the local authorities of Poole and Bournemouth we were able to deliver the adoptable highways works and connections in the highways network quickly and efficiently. The project was completed ahead of programme and on budget.
