Winchester High Street

City Centre Repaving & Drainage Improvement Scheme

Repaving Winchester High Street was a joint scheme between Hampshire County Council and Winchester City Council which provides the High Street with a new surface of some 4000m² of natural York stone together with new benches, signposts and litter bins of natural oak and black steel. The new paving is of high quality stone laid to exacting tolerances and it complements the local heritage. Beneath the paving a new and upgraded storm water drainage system has been constructed to provide a robust and durable facility for many years to come.

The High Street is the hub of central Winchester, used on a daily basis by numerous people attracted to the city for work, shopping, leisure and tourism. For the construction phase of the project Mildren had a dedicated policy of seamless intervention, minimising the impact of disruption, dust, noise and vibration. Activity method statements and risk assessments were developed with priority given to these specific criteria. The whole project was an outstanding success for every stakeholder and much praise was given over to Mildren’s standards and quality of workmanship together with the exemplary customer service delivered throughout the works.
