West Bay Visitor Centre

Single storey visitor centre

Located on an existing car park in West Bay, Dorset, the project comprised the construction of a steel framed, single storey visitor centre housing arrival facilities (public conveniences), office and storage space. The works included drainage and external hard standing with high specification internal and external finishes throughout.

The site itself was founded on made ground overlying soft, sandy clay, therefore pre-cast piles and ground beams were used to support the steel framed structure which was clad in a mixture of local Purbeck stone and Green Oak timber.

Due to the location of the site within the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, procedures were applied to ensure that the project was carried out without causing disruption to localised habitats and wildlife. A low energy pv system was used for power to the new building.

With nuisance levels reduced through effective planning and an uninterrupted project programme the highest levels of client satisfaction were achieved.
