Salisbury Market Square
Major Town Centre Repaving Scheme
Mildren Construction were contracted by Wiltshire Council to undertake this flagship repaving scheme of Salisbury Market Square.
Carried out under an NEC 3 Option B Re-Measurable Contract, this project involved the complete repaving and refurbishment of the Market Square area.
Using a combination of Granite, York Stone and Wiltshire Limestone, the project was split into three distinct phases so that weekly markets could remain operational throughout the Construction process.
Detailed Traffic and Pedestrian Management plans were developed in conjunction with the client prior to the commencement of works because of the need to ensure safe areas for pedestrians and constant access (during trading hours) to shops and offices. Keeping dust, noise and vibration to a minimum was a key factor in the construction process.
Mildren were able to create a temporary secure yard location away from the main market place to which deliveries could be made and bulk materials stored. Smaller deliveries could then be made by a 10tonne Hiab Lorry, which was dedicated to the project for its duration. Therefore reducing the movement of large delivery vehicles in and around the Market Square.
