Winter Sludge Storage Barns
Three large steel framed buildings for the storage of de-watered sludge cake at Taunton Ham Sewage Treatment Works (STW)
The works comprised the construction of three large steel framed buildings for the storage of de-watered sludge cake at Taunton Ham Sewage Treatment Works (STW) in Somerset to assist in the upgrades to the STC as part of the strategic capital maintenance programme.
Each building had an overall height of approximately 13m and an approximate plan dimension of 60m x 29m. The buildings were clad in hit and miss timber allowing natural ventilation, internally we installed 2.5m high pre-cast concrete walls to the perimeter of the 3 barns to contain the stockpiled sludge. An area of Reinforced concrete hardstanding (of approximate plan area 100 by 20m), used by delivery lorries for access and turning was installed, including the new access road and provision of soakaways via crated modular units, comms and power to the barns and new landscaping.
