M&S Weymouth forms the final phase of the Weymouth Gateway retail development, transforming a former brownfield site into a modern retail destination for the town. Located on Souter Way, adjacent to Mercery Road, the new purpose-built Marks & Spencer store completes the wider scheme following the successful delivery of Aldi, B&M, Dunelm, Costa and McDonald’s.
The development delivers a 3,866 sq m retail warehouse designed to reflect the M&S brand while complementing the architectural character of the existing retail park. The contemporary design uses a palette of white cladding, black ceramic tiles, brickwork and extensive glazing to create a clean, high-quality appearance that strengthens the retail frontage along Mercery Road.

Customer accessibility and convenience were central to the scheme’s design. The project includes 234 parking spaces, accessible and parent-and-child bays, cycle shelters and fast EV charging facilities. New pedestrian routes and level access connections integrate the store seamlessly with the existing phases of Weymouth Gateway, improving movement across the site for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians alike.

The development was carefully planned to sit sensitively within its surroundings. Existing landscape buffers and protected tree lines were retained along neighbouring residential boundaries, while acoustic fencing and considered servicing arrangements help minimise operational impact on nearby homes. Existing drainage and attenuation infrastructure established during earlier phases were also incorporated into the final design.

Sustainability played an important role throughout the project, with the development targeting a BREEAM “Very Good” rating. Ecological measures introduced across the wider gateway development were maintained as part of the final phase, supporting biodiversity and responsible long-term site management.
M&S Weymouth represents the successful completion of a major regeneration project, delivering a high-quality retail environment that supports economic growth, enhances local amenity and creates a strong gateway destination for Weymouth.
