Mildren Construction welcome two university students on one year placements.

As part of their commitment to providing training and development opportunities to those looking to enter the Construction industry, Mildren have offered these placements to two University Civil Engineering Students.

Jasper Tucker from Swansea University has a proven track record in his previous work experience and achieved excellent results. He has already completed 35 and 45-mile Ten Tors challenges at a young age.

Jasper is involved in a wide variety of sports societies and competes and helps organise his university intramural team.  He is a keen Triathlete which requires dedication and perseverance.

Also joining Jasper at Mildren is Ryan George from Plymouth University. Ryan achieved an incredible 99% in his Stage 2 Structures exam (incorporating two-way slab design, 2D frame and truss analysis, retaining structures, torsion & foundations).

He also has had previous site work experience with a Main Contractor working on the construction of a new college facility, specifically overseeing the Reinforced Concrete Frame construction including pre-pour checks of reinforcement steel & shuttering, quality assurance & general guidance for the sub-contractor.

While studying, he joined the local University Officer Training Corps and enlisted as a Cat B Reserve officer. Having completed two out of the five modules offered in the OTC,  he left in September 2016 to continue work with Kier alongside his studies, but intends to re-join after his placement with Mildren Construction in Sept’ 2018. The two completed OTC modules can be put towards an officer commission in the army reserves at any time in the future.

With the many significant road building projects Mildren are currently working on, Jasper and Ryan will be working alongside their existing site teams, at Talbot Campus in Bournemouth and Newgate Lane in Fareham respectively.

Simon French, Managing Director of Mildren said: “We are pleased to welcome Jasper and Ryan to Mildren Construction. This placement will provide both of them with an opportunity to experience every aspect of civil engineering right from the very start of some exciting projects. As they gain experience their roles will develop and they will work at both head office and site level, thus providing them with an excellent grounding with which to start their careers.”

Mildren’s success is borne of combining industry expertise and professionalism with unrivalled local knowledge and a willingness to think innovatively and ambitiously.
