Mildren Construction’s directors were all back in the classroom last month to undertake their CITB Renewable Site Safety Plus certificate.

Every five years, all directors in construction and engineering roles are obliged to complete the intensive one day CITB Director’s Role for Health and Safety: Site Safety Plus, as a legal requirement.

The course is recognised by BuildUK for all directors working on BuildUK sites and covers all aspects of health and safety, including moral and human costs and the implications of decisions made in the boardroom.

It also looks at the economic implications of an unsafe working environment, directors’ legal responsibilities with regards to health and safety and the principles and importance of the risk assessment process.

During the highly interactive course illustrated by case studies, classroom discussions, group work and individual or group presentations, the directors are also taught/reminded how to acquire competent health and safety assistance – the limitations of such an appointment – and the basic tools of introducing a proactive health and safety culture.  The day concluded with a multiple choice assessment.

Simon French, Managing Director of Mildren, said: “It’s an essential course for all directors to fully understand, especially as they are personally liable in the event of any mishap.  So, as you can imagine, I’m delighted – not to mention very relieved – to announce that everyone passed with flying colours!”
