Mildren Construction took part in their third cricket fixture on Friday 6th June overcoming a tough test from the Parent’s and Teachers team of Prebendal School… Finally bringing home a much-awaited victory!

The days leading up to the fixture and indeed the morning of were damp and questions were raised over the game going ahead. However, the rain cleared for just long enough for the game to go ahead.

Mildren opted to bowl first, given the conditions and hoping it would give the wicket a little longer to dry out. This tactic seemed to pay dividends, managing to restrict a very competent batting line-up from Prebendal to 126/7 from their 20 overs. Mildren were very good value for this too with some excellent bowling from the attack. Stuart Ribbons took his maiden wicket, Rob Collins, Dan Russell and Simon French all bowled tidy spells to name a few.

The Mildren batting line-up knocked off the total with 8 balls to spare, with some very good batting in challenging conditions. Dan Russell and Henry Grant scoring 25+ runs each, and Rob Collins and Stuart Ribbons making valuable contributions.

We finished with innings of 128/4 from 18.4 overs and claimed victory for the first time, winning by 6 wickets. We would like to extend a big thank you to The Prebendal School, Chichester for playing and hosting what was a thoroughly enjoyable match, played in great spirits and a terrific evening of sport. We can’t wait for the decider next year!

Player of the match goes to Stuart Ribbons, one of the non-cricketers of the group who performed admirably and was rewarded for his efforts with a wicket and valuable runs.
