Hunger Hill Roundabout

Improving the efficiency of the junction

Borough of Poole has appointed Mildren Construction to carry out significant improvement works at Hunger Hill roundabout, near Holes Bay, as part of the major investment in Poole’s infrastructure by Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership to support economic growth and improve links to the Port of Poole.

Hunger Hill Improvements is part of a wider scheme known locally as Townside Access which incorporates improvements to the Hunger Hill junction, Asda/Holes Bay Road junction, West Street and West Quay Road. Townside Access is in turn part of an extensive programme of work.

Hunger Hill is a busy signalised roundabout junction (c. 70,000 vehicles per day) in Poole Town Centre. It sits on the A350 which is a vital route to the Port of Poole and the large residential suburb of Hamworthy.

The Works involved:

  • Carriageway realignment of a live junction.
  • Construction of wide shared-use footways and crossings.
  • Ducting and signalling and street lighting works.
  • Highway drainage works.
  • Carriageway surfacing, line marking and signage.

We are writing to say thank you to the Mildren ‘Gang’ carrying out the massive alterations to Hungerhill Poole. They are very hard workers, friendly and have done a very good job handling so many problems with drivers that arised during the works.
