The bridge replaces the original railway bridge, removed since the 1960’s and completes the North Dorset Trailway project providing a bridleway linking many of North Dorset’s towns and villages. Access to the remote site was across fields which proved a challenge for the 120t mobile crane required to lift in the central bridge span. Equally critical was the shutdown, removal and replacement of the overhead high voltage power cables which required an 8 week lead time in the construction programme.
